It used to be pretty simple: pets ate pet food and people ate people food. Sometimes the pet would get some table scraps, but in general that's the way it went. Then we started making pet treats and snacks. Ok, that's fine. They get something a little like our potato chips to have as a treat. The stuff was still too sweet or fatty to eat an entire bowl of, but it was still sort of dog or cat food.
